6 Unexplored & Untouched places in Odisha

Odisha is one of the most culturally rich and vibrant states of India. Every year tourists visit the state to see the Jagannath Temple, Puri. But many places in Odisha are still unexplored and untouched.

I have listed 6 Unexplored & Untouched places in Odisha that you must visit

  1. Jirang Monastery, Chandragiri

If you are in search of peace and tranquillity, this is the place. The location is surrounded by mountains and forest which will make you love this place. Jirang is located about 100 km from Berhampur city.

If you haven’t been to Jirang, I highly suggest you visit this place.

2. Rushikulya Beach

Rushikulya Beach is best known for “Olive Ridley Turtle” which is one of the unexplored beaches in Odisha. The shortest route to reach Rushikulya Beach from Bhubaneswar and Cuttack is via NH-16.

According to a 2010 article in The Hindu titled “One lakh turtles nest in Rushikulya beach in Orissa” apparently over one lakh turtles laid eggs at this picturesque and pristine beach located in Odisha.

3. Chandipur Beach

Chandipur Beach is approximately 16 kilometers from the Baleswar Railway Station which is also known as Chandipur-on-sea. The Chandipur coast has attained global popularity for its ‘Vanishing Sea’ phenomenon. Here one can see the sea disappear by almost 5 to 6 kilometers every day during low tide and then comes back at high tide.

4. Barehipani Waterfall

Barehipani Falls is a two-tiered waterfall located in Simlipal National Park in Mayurbhanj district. The water cascades down from a height up to 399 m, in two separate tiers and settle down in the pool below. Barehipani is India’s 2nd highest and Odisha’s highest waterfall. Barehipani Waterfall is unexplored, and you can find very few people visiting this place.

5. Tensa Hill

First thing, this is my birthplace, yeah I was born here. Tensa is a small hill station which is surrounded by dense forests and green hills. Tensa is located at a distance of 110 km from the city of Rourkela at an altitude of 3700 m above sea level. Due to its high altitude, this place gives a majestic view of surrounding mountains and evergreen forest.

6. Debrigarh

The Debrigarh Wildlife sanctuary finds a special place in the national map because of its historical association with freedom fighter, Surendra Sai. It is believed that he took shelter in this jungle while planning his rebellion against the British. The sanctuary is famous for its sylvan beauty and pristine wilderness. The dry deciduous forests with varied flora and fauna attract the nature-lovers of Odisha and neighboring states every year. The Sanctuary can be entered through Dhodrokusum by the Hirakud reservoir and is situated 60 km from Baragarh and 40 km from Sambalpur.

Let me know which one is your favourite.

One’s destination is never a place, but always a new way of seeing things.
