I have worked with many startups and experienced a lot of learnings out of it. But the one thing they always missed to get it right is an excellent digital marketing and promotional strategies. Sometimes they want to do multiple things and sometimes are they stick to one thing.

As a startup, I know there will be budgeting issue, but in this blog, I will be sharing some Digital Marketing strategy 2019 for start-ups that can improve your presence on the internet and hopefully you will get the right accounts for your startup.

Let’s start…

  1. CONTENT is the KING for startups
CONTENT is the KING for startups

As a startup, if you want to showcase your product and services, a company blog is the best way to improve.

I have seen many startups where they are just putting content as their weekly target. PLEASE STOP if you are doing so.

Write one blog every week but take care of that blog as a baby. Make sure it looks good from outside and inside, make sure the user reading your blog relate and find answers.

Tips:

Make sure you add humour in it even if you are a B2B startup, no one like a monotonous long blog.

Make sure you add GIF or some explainer videos which will redirect to your youtube page.

Make sure you are using the right keyword.

Make sure your visitor gets insight from your blog in just 3 seconds.

2. SEO for startups 2019

As you all know SEO is a long term process but an effective one. IIt’slike a wine, the older it is the more classier it will become.

SEO for startups is very important and every founder knows it. Everybody hates SEO but cannot live without it.

Working on SEO will generate traffic passively but in 6 months if you are doing the right thing, you will generate traffic WITHOUT INVESTING ANYTHING (Yeah… I know Startup founders love this).

Tips:

Make sure you are using the right keyword for your website and SEO efforts

Make sure your UI/UX is not complex for the users

Make sure your website/landing page are mobile indexed

Make sure your site speed is below 3–4 seconds.

Implement SSL to improve authority

Social sharing and link building

3. Social media strategy

Social media strategy

I have seen many companies don’t like to get involved in social media strategy as they think their customers are not there. But even if you don’t have your customers on Facebook, you need to at least have a decent presence.

Companies like PWC and Deloitte utilize Instagram and Facebook to showcase their culture and people, and I believe every startup can do so. If you want your startup to land ahead, then social media is your place.

If you are a B2B company, then LinkedIn is your heaven. If your customers are mostly from US and Europe, then you can capitalize LinkedIn for your benefits and YES, you have to spend some money if you want to promote your product and services to right people.

Tips:

Spend 2% of your marketing budget on Facebook, Instagram and other social media platform.

Experiment of LinkedIn ad types — Carousal, Single image, in-mail ads etc.

Don’t shy sharing and commenting on your competitor's blogs

Make sure you are personalizing every ad copies — because everyone wants attention.

4. Here come Video Content strategy

Yes, I know as a startup getting involved in time-consuming activities like producing video content will cost you money but let me show you the stats.

Video Content strategy

Tell me you are not aroused after seeing the above stats.

Man, you can do a lot of stuff on the video marketing side. Producing great explainer videos for your product and services, tutorial videos where you can showcase your brand and how users can use it and many more. There are infinite opportunities when it comes to video marketing.

If you are a startup and you want to be ready for the next 5 years — take time and start making good videos because Video marketing is the new Digital marketing.

Tips:

OTT — A report by The Diffusion Group says that all major networks will provide direct-to-consumer video services by 2022.

Most of the videos are made on mobile and you should also consider this. Studies have indicated that in 2018 an average person would have spent close to 45 minutes every day watching mobile videos online.

And guys, the script should be the main focal points means what is your objective and how you want to showcase to the users. Don’t pitch about yourselves — identify the pain points of your industry and make sure you show you have the power to remove those pain points.

It is predicted that in 2019, advertisers will be spending around $20 billion on mobile video, up from $2 billion since 2012. That means mobile video will account for nearly a fifth of all digital display advertising by 2019.

5. Account-based marketing

Account-based marketing

From my experience in startups, I feel getting the right account/customer is always the problem but we do whatever needs to be done. But account-based marketing is a problem solver.

Here, you need to identify accounts based on revenue or your target customers and then show them ads — just to those customers.

You can choose seniority levels and what not and Account-based marketing tools like terminus or Marketo will do it for you.

Here you are pitching your product/services to the right people and the right companies.

So yeah, these are the 5 Digital marketing strategies for start-ups 2019.

Tell me which strategy you want to implement ASAP?
